My favorite quote from Stephen King (not sure where this came from, so this is not an exact quote):
“Writing a novel is like padlding from New York to Boston in a bathtub. It’s not a surprise that a lot of them don’t make it. What’s surprising is that so many of them do.”
Which, if not optimistic per se, certainly encourages persistance.
